KEB-26106 Special Project in Bioengineering, 2-8 cr


The student should come to talk with the instructor about the topic and way of completing the course. The content and extent of the special project is agreed separately with the teacher. The extent of the special project can be 2-8 cr.
This a MSc level course in Bioengineering. Please discuss with the course responsible person before signing up the course about your previous knowledge in Bioengineering.
Suitable for postgraduate studies.

The content of the studies will be agreed between supervisor and PhD student. They may include literature surveys, experimental measurements and theoretical calculations, from the substance area of postgraduate research.


After the course, the student is able to: - apply the principles of scientific writing, reporting, and information retrieval. - apply project management skills In addition, the student who has carried out a laboratory work, is able to: - plan and execute laboratory experiments - masters the essential laboratory methods used during the course

1. Laboratory project: independent laboratory work as a part of a research group, mastering laboratory methods, planning and executing laboratory experiments  Use of laboratory instrumentation  Up-to-date knowledge of the latest research methods and topics 
2. Literature survey: searching and classifying information, compiling a review article, interpreting and applying information  Project scheduling   
3. Discussing research results and drawing conclusions  Use of programs in reporting and visualizing results   
4. Oral and written reporting of research results

The grade (0-5) will be determined by the extent of self-initiative, diligence and activeness of the student. Also, meeting the schedule set for the project is of high importance. The quality and thoroughness of the literature survey or laboratory project report also affects the grade. A good understanding the core content will suffice to a grade 3. In order to earn a grade 4 or 5 the student will have to have a good or excellent understanding of complementary and specialist knowledge. The exam will be graded on a scale of 0-5 by the level of knowledge of the exam material.
