Supporting innovation in industrial companies through social technologies

NODE INDEMP seminar on “Supporting innovation in industrial companies through  social technologies” held March 5, 2015, 9.00 – 12.30.

Background and objective

NODE and UiA are currently working on an international research project called Intelligent Digital Engineering and Manufacturing Platform (INDEMP), funded by Innovation Norway through the BSR Innovation Express program. The project focuses on promoting user-oriented product development by means of modern collaboration tools and digital platforms, including social media, simulation tools and virtual models.

A main collaboration partner in the project is Tampere University of Technology, where Professor Kärkkäinen and his research team have conducted extensive research on the possible benefits from using social technologies and crowdsourcing in supporting business-to-business innovation especially from the standpoint of industrial and manufacturing companies.

The seminar presents key results from Novi research, including the following topics:

  • State of the art use of social technologies and crowdsourcing for supporting innovation in industrial companies from Finland and other countries
  • Overview of various social collaboration platforms and examples of their use in product development and business-to-business innovation – also in launching new user oriented products to international markets
  • How social media can support business-to-business customer interaction and learning
  • Discussion on challenges and best practices, and possible inter-cluster collaboration between NODE and the Forum for Intelligent Machines (FIMA) / Intelligent Machines Finland (IMF) clusters.
