Dr. Maria Törhönen was a postdoctoral researcher and a project manager at the Gamification Group at Tampere University. In her research, Törhönen examines user-led media production on digital media formats and the gamification of media, with a specific focus on online video production, the YouTube-culture, live streaming and esports.
Törhönen is a founding member, and a board member of the Esports Research Network, she has presented her work in various events and venues and has published in e.g.Computers in Human Behavior. Her research has also appeared in various different media outlets.
