Background

Social media and new information  technologies offer totally new, quick and flexible ways to integrate new actors (e.g. customers, end users and R&D partners) to organizational innovation processes and networks in case they are needed. Social media also enables the use  of crowdsourcing amongst customers as well as the use crowdsourcing amongst B2B -company stakeholders. Hereby,  many activities that have traditionally been conducted in-house can be outsourced to external parties.  Social media and new information technologies under research in this research proposal, thus, also provide innovative means to renew industrial business activity through flexible networking that aims at creating value-add.

Objectives & Expected Contribution

This research proposal aims to 1) find out what does to future hold for radically new value creation and business models based on social media applications and new information technologies and 2) study what visionary and innovative ways there are to build value creation and business models especially using social media and new information technology (in short- and long-term) and 3) to detect new forms of organizing which, first, enable new kinds of value creation and business models applying social media and new information technologies and, second, enable their development and renewal.
