Goals of the workshop This workshop will offer an interdisciplinary forum of discussion for both practitioners and academics interested in conceptualizing, designing and evaluating mobile social media concepts and applications. The workshop, through a series of interactive presentations, will facilitate discussions aiming at identify and summarize main theoretical and interaction design concerns related to the increasing use of mobile social media in a variety of settings. More in details, the aim of this workshop is to describe, discuss and reflect upon the following issues:
- Current practices associated with the use of mobile social media for supporting a wide variety of intellectual and physical activities.
- Interaction design challenges associated with the use and adoption of mobile social media
- Theoretical frameworks and analytical concepts that present and elaborate novel ideas regarding communication and interaction patterns among users of mobile social media.
Participant selection criteria The workshop will include 15 to 20 participants each presenting a position paper during the workshop.
Requirements for position papers Position papers should address one of the topics of the workshop and are generally 4-6 pages long. It outlines the submitter’s view on the workshop theme and the reasons for the submitter’s interest in the particular topic.
Relevant Topics Relevant topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Usability of current Mobile Social Media applications
- Life logging and life publishing cultures
- Understanding and designing social mobile media
- How to make mobile social media platforms more usable and integrated with other social media platforms?
- Change from HCI to CCI (Community Content Interaction)
- How do we bring the physical context in to social media supported by mobile tools?
- Personal and contextual tagging
- Media & tag management on mobile devices
- Can we enhance the physical context and presence in to the social media using mobile tools?
- Creating user experience on mobile social media applications
- Mediating experiences with mobile social media
Submission The papers should be formatted to according to ACM MOBILEHCI09 PROCEEDINGS FORMAT and submitted as a pdf file to jari.multisilta@tut.fi, no later than Friday, May 15th, 2009. The accepted papers are notified on Friday, May 29th 2009. At least one author of accepted papers needs to register for the workshop and for one day of the conference itself. Accepted papers will be published as workshop proceedings in the Tampere University of Technology publication series. The workshop materials, together with a summary of discussions, will be published on the web after the workshop.
Workshop structure Accepted papers will be circulated to all attendees of the workshop on August. The workshop itself will be organized around 3 to 4 interactive focus discussions, where each author has 10 minutes to present his/her paper. In the last interactive session the participants will be divided into subgroups, each suggesting future research directions on related topics discussed during the workshop.
