FAST-Lab wins Best Oral Presentation Award at IECON 2012
The Factory Automation Systems and Technologies Laboratory from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) was recognized with the Best Oral Presentation Award under the theme “Intelligent Real-Time Automation and Control Systems” at the 38th annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics SocietyFAST-Lab researcher Luis E. Gonzalez Moctezuma received the award for his paper that was presented in the special session focusing on Intelligent Real-time Automation and Control Systems at the IECON 2012 Conference held in Montreal, Canada.
Moctezuma’s paper is titled “Free Shape Paths in Industrial Robots”. Standard industrial robots offer limited capabilities for implementing free shape paths, nevertheless future industrial robotics application might require features like this. The paper demonstrates how to implement free shape paths in standard manipulators by using Bezier curves. The work was carried out and implemented in the robotic cells that compose the FASTory.
The co-authors of the paper are Dr. Andrei Lobov and Prof. Jose L. Martinez.
IECON 2012 is the 38th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and was held in Montreal, Canada, from 25 to 28 October 2012. The conference focused on industrial and manufacturing theory and applications of electronics, controls, communications, instrumentation and computational intelligence. IECON is the flagship conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and its long history dates back to 1975 in Philadelphia, USA.
Luis E. Gonzalez Moctezuma graduated from the International Master's Degree Programme in Machine Automation, majoring in Factory Automation, and has since then been with FAST-Lab working for a number of projects in close collaboration with the industrial partners of FAST-Lab. He originally comes from Mexico.
The FAST-Lab is a multi-disciplinary and multicultural group of 35 researchers led by Prof. Jose L. Martinez Lastra working in the field of Factory Automation with special emphasis on Industrial Informatics.
