Guest lecture on Finite Element Analysis Thursday 19.4

Prof. Sergey Korotov of the Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, Bilbao, Spain, will give a talk Thursday 19.4.2012 at 10:15-11 in Td308 on DISCRETE MAXIMUM PRINCIPLES IN FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS. Welcome!

In this talk, some recent results on discrete maximum principles (DMPs) for finite element (FE-) type approximations for various linear and nonlinear elliptic and parabolic problems are surveyed. The validity of DMPs often depends on certain geometric characteristics of meshes employed in FE simulations, and this raises geometric and algorithmic challenges for mesh generation and mesh adaptivity.
