Kids Out! – Urban environments and physical activity among children and adolescents

In Kids Out!-study, PA of children and adolescents as well as associations between the environment, PA and obesity will be analyzed in different urban environments in collaboration with international research partners. Objective cartographic data of built environment and objectively measured levels of PA will be combined with respective experiential data produced by children themselves. The main objectives of the study are: 1) to find out how morphologically different urban environments relate to children’s PA, 2) to examine the relationships between built environment, objectively measured PA and children’s subjective experiences of urban environments, 3) to determine the associations of daily environments, PA and family characteristics with obesity and 4) to plan and initiate a randomized controlled intervention involving school and family as well as environmental approaches to promote PA in children.
