Structural model for South Ostrobothnia, preliminary study

Since the beginning of 1980s the orientation of land use planning has changed from regulation towards strategic development. The methods and processes of planning have been adapted to project based logics, since the developmental dynamics of communities and regions is generated increasingly in the domains of private sector. In this study, a new kind of approach to regional planning has been outlined. Because the developmental dynamics is based on individual projects also in regional level – whether wind generator plants or innovation environments – planners need concepts and methods that help them interpret regional transformation processes from the standpoint of altered paradigm, and after that, direct development efficiently. This study presents some conceptual tools for supporting the developmental dimension of regional land use planning.
