(8.11.11) Part of the SIN group will go on tour in Japan from 12th November. They will visit six universities, covering over 2500 Km by train and present over 20 seminars. See the tour site for details.

(12.10.11) The programme for the annual Computational Physics workshop is available. The meeting will be held on 31.10.11 in Varala, Tampere.

(23.8.11) The MMM group simulated magnesium silicate glasses that have been manufactured by applying levitation techniques and their atomic (+ electronic) structure. The collaboration included partners from Japan (AF-JST program), and colleagues from the USA and UK (S. Kohara et al., PNAS (2011)).

(15.7.11) The SIN group used quantum mechanical calculations of surface thermodynamic stability and simulations of atomic force microscopy to aid in resolving the structure of a key oxide surface. The work was in strong collaboration with an experimental group in Aarhus, Denmark (M. Rasmussen et al., Physical Review Letters (2011) 107 036102).

(6.6.11) The SIN group is part of one of the 15 new Centres of Excellence selected by the Academy of Finland. The Centre is focused on Computational Nanoscience and is led by Professor Risto Nieminen from the Aalto School of Science.
