The building stock renews very slowly. It is therefore important to try to improve effectively also the energy efficiency of existing buildings. Here it is the case on the other hand on the introduction of better technical solutions and on the other hand on the increasing of the knowledge of the users and maintenance personal on the energy consumption issues. The owners and the users of real estates must be in possession of the necessary information and tools to enable them to assess the energy efficiency of the property.
The starting point for improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings is the knowledge of the comparable energy consumption and especially the reasons behind it. Energy consumption can be explained accurately only using reliable energy consumption models and the measurements of the factors explaining the energy consumption (interior temperatures, ventilation air flow rates, water consumption). The energy renovations should be realized there where it is technically feasible and cost-effective.
