Good language and communication skills are an essential part of academic expertise. In addition, the ability to act naturally in an international environment is one of the most important skills for a qualified engineer or architect. The Language Centre supports these objectives through the courses it offers as part of TUT's basic qualifications. Where appropriate, language studies are also offered to post-graduate students and staff. The Language Centre offers courses in ten different languages altogether.
The Language Centre aims to furnish our future graduate engineers and architects with practical language skills which genuinely serve their professional requirements. To this end, one of the Language Centre's core strengths is the teaching of languages for specific purposes. Through close cooperation with other university departments, this enables the Language Centre to produce language courses and materials which are closely integrated with the objectives of TUT's main teaching faculties. In addition to practical language skills, it is important that the students also become familiar with different cultures, so cultural awareness and intercultural communication are an integral part of the Language Centre teaching provision.
