The Department can serve companies by offering its expertise to solve a wide range of communications engineering related problems. Typically this happens in the form of a project, which can be of various size and nature. Performance measurements of wireless and wired networks, topics in mobile networks and applications, and consultancy in information security related issues are examples of recent themes in the cooperation with companies. Additional examples of company-driven projects can be found from the research projects page.
One active area for collaboration is the use of test environments for communication systems. The TUT Research Network provides a flexible and configurable communication network infrastructure which is also available to the companies. It includes an Internet laboratory consisting of various Juniper and Cisco routers, firewalls and switches which can be securely connected to the company's own networks or to the national Future Internet testbed. A 3G UMTS/LTE test network and a laboratory for high-precision RF measurements are also available as part of the research infrastructure of the department.
Please contact the Head of Department to hear more about the possibilities for collaboration.
