Radio network group (RNG) addresses the theories and techniques related to the design and techno-economical optimization of mobile cellular networks. The focus is on 3G and beyond future cellular network concepts and technologies. The activities in this area include the to-pology planning of cellular mobile networks (e.g., GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE), including indoor networks, repeaters, and femto-cell networks. The group is led by Prof. Jukka Lempiäinen and there are 3 Ph.D. students and a few M.Sc. students preparing their thesis in the group. The operation of the group is recently also complemented by Prof. Mikko Valkama's students studying radio resource management (RRM) techniques, like packet scheduling, link adaptation, and different channel quality reporting mechanisms in emerging packet radio systems.
