Students are advised to arrive in Tampere a couple of days before the orientation week to organise practical matters and get settled into their new surroundings. Please note that on weekends and national holidays TUT’s International Office and the TOAS Student Housing Office are closed.
Most of our international students arrive in Finland by air, either in Helsinki at Helsinki-Vantaa airport or in Tampere at Tampere-Pirkkala airport. A direct coach service runs from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Tampere city centre. The coach stops in front of the international flights terminal and a single ticket to Tampere costs approximately EUR 25. The trip takes about two and a half hours.
The bus no 61 runs from Tampere-Pirkkala airport to the city centre. The trip to Tampere city centre takes about 40 minutes and a single ticket costs approximately EUR 5. Please check the timetable on the Väinö Paunu Oy website.
There is a bus leaving for Ryanair flights from the airport to the city.
A taxi from the airport to Tampere city centre or to TUT (located at the Hervanta suburb) costs about EUR 35.

There are ferry connections to Helsinki from Sweden, Estonia and Germany. A direct train runs from Helsinki to Tampere.Trains run nearly every hour during daytime and a single ticket from Helsinki to Tampere costs EUR 25-35, depending on the train. Meet and greet
You need to make your own travel arrangements to the TOAS Housing Office and your flat, but some tutors may be able to meet you upon arrival. You should tell your tutor your exact arrival details and then you can agree where to meet. If you arrive outside TOAS office hours, your tutor may be able to pick up the key to your flat from TOAS.

The TOAS Housing Office is located near Tampere city centre. The bus no. 30 that runs from the city centre to Hervanta stops directly in front of the office. Single fare costs EUR 2.50. The visiting address of the TOAS Housing Office is Iidesaukio 1.

Tampere University of Technology (in Finnish Tampereen teknillinen yliopisto) is situated approximately 10 kilometers from the city centre in the Hervanta suburb. The bus lines 13, 20, 23, 30 and 39 run to Hervanta.
From the railway station in Tampere, you can take the bus lines No. 13, 20, 23 and 39 to Hervanta. The bus stop is across the street from the department store Stockmann in the city centre.
From the coach station (from the same side of the road as the coach station) and from the TOAS Housing Office you can take the bus no. 30 to Hervanta. Buses run approximately every 15 minutes and single fare costs EUR 2.50.
The trip from the city centre to Hervanta takes about 25 minutes by bus. By taxi, the trip takes about 15 minutes and costs around EUR 15-20.
