Duration of the exchange study period
The academic year at TUT is divided into two semesters, the autumn semester and the spring semester. The academic year consists of four teaching periods and there is an examination week(s) at the end of each teaching period (please see the academic calendar for exact dates). Some courses (mainly in Finnish) are arranged during the summer months, except for the month of July, and some opportunities are available to take examinations and do research work at the departments.
The autumn semester begins in late August/early September and ends at the end of December. The spring semester starts in early January and ends in late May.
There are three options for an exchange study period at TUT:
1. Student can choose to study for the whole academic year (teaching periods 1-4). The academic year begins in late August/early September and ends in late May.
2. Students can choose to study for the duration of the autumn semester (i.e. teaching periods 1-2). In this case the students need to select courses that are arranged during these two teaching periods.
3. Students can choose to study for the duration of the spring semester (i.e. teaching periods 3-4). The spring semester starts in early January and the exchange study period would end at the end of the fourth teaching period (late May). In this case the students need to select courses that are arranged during the third and fourth teaching period.
A student can apply to TUT as an ERASMUS or an exchange student, if:
If there is no valid exchange agreement between TUT and the student's home university, the student may still apply for admission to TUT as a visiting student, a so-called freemover. Each freemover student application will be considered case by case. The total number of exchange student applicants from our partner universities determines how many freemovers may be admitted. Please contact the International Office, interoff@tut.fi, with questions concerning freemover applications.
Students with special needs should contact the International Office to discuss arrangements for their stay in Finland and TUT.
Looking for an internship / traineeship?
Tampere University of Technology doesn’t have any specific internship programmes or lists of open trainee positions. All the internships at TUT are organized by the interested students themselves. If you are looking for a traineeship position, please have a look at TUT’s departments and their research fields (http://www.tut.fi/en/units/index.htm), choose a field of your interest and then contact the responsible professor.
If you have already found an internship position at TUT, please read this small leaflet: Traineeship _TUT.pdf
