Students pursue doctoral studies for the purpose of obtaining a postgraduate degree. Students can complete the following postgraduate degrees at TUT: Licentiate of Science in Technology, Doctor of Science in Technology and Doctor of Philosophy. The number of doctoral applicants far exceeds the number of places available and the level of applicants is high. The Finnish Doctor of Science degree is equivalent to a PhD in many other countries. Doctoral programmes can be completed in English.
Students may pursue doctoral studies on a full or part-time basis. The normative time-to-degree for full-time doctoral students is four years. Part-time students may take longer to complete the degree. However, it should not take longer than eight years to obtain a doctoral degree.
TUT offers doctoral students a high-standard, inspiring research environment and services for the commercialization of research results.
Students can apply for admission to doctoral studies from the five different faculties of TUT.
The Doctoral Programme of TUT’s President is a high-quality, internal doctoral programme. All the disciplines represented at the University are covered by the programme but emphasis is placed on the leading-edge fields of research as defined by TUT's strategy, as well as on multidisciplinary approach and internationality. The students who are admitted to the programme receive funding for completing a doctoral degree primarily in three years of full-time study. The total number of places available in the programme is 55.
The latest call for the programme ended on April 13. The results will be announced by the end of May.
