How to get to Tampere

Tampere (or Tammerfors as the city is called in Swedish) is easily accessible. It is located in Southern Finland, 175 km North of Helsinki.

From Pirkkala airport to city center

If you are flying directly to Tampere, you can catch a bus or a taxi from ther airport to the city center. The price of the bus is 5 euros which can be paid in cash when entering the bus.

Bus line 1A operates between Tampere city center and Tampere-Pirkkala airport. The schedules are found online.

You can also catch a taxi at the airport. The taxi journey costs about 40 euros. Taxis in Finland are reliable.

By train from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Tampere

There is a train connection directly from the Helsinki airport to Tampere. You can buy a ticket straight to Tampere, but will have to change trains at Tikkurila station (a 9 minute journey from the airport). Trains from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Tikkurila leave every 10 minutes and there are 1-2 trains per hour to Tampere except night time.

By bus from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Tampere

Like the train, buses run from Helsinki to Tampere approximately every hour and make the journey in less than two.

In general, transport connections within Finland are of an excellent standard. The main roads are good, and public transport is punctual, efficient, comfortable and affordable.
