Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems - Tampere University of Technology

Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Systems

The major part of the university level research in the field of mechanical engineering and industrial systems in Finland is done in our department. Our research gives tools to tackle the problems that machine and production industry are facing all the time.

We do a lot of cooperation with companies in the form of research projects and services. We have comprehensive and modern equipment and laboratories but our most important asset is the expertise of our staff. Our researchers are experts of their own field of research from which research groups will be formed according to the needs of the project. Each other supporting research fields and strong international cooperation networks form a strong base for fruitful research activites.

Our research fields are consisting the following sub-sections

Design and Development

  • Machine design
  • Fluid power and Mechatronics
  • Aircraft systems
  • Product development
  • Innovations

Manufacturing and Automation

  • Advanced manufacturing processes
  • Disruptive Innovations (Additive Manufacturing and 3D printing)
  • Systems Engineering in Manufacturing
  • Future Production Ecosystem Strategies
  • Adaptive and Smart Manufacturing Systems and Networks
  • Collaborative Robotics
