The research group of Electromechanics focuses on electromagnetic energy conversion. Our main research topics are related to multiphysical modeling of magnetic materials as well as numerical analysis and measurement of rotating electrical machines, transformers and inductors.
In our ongoing research, we develop models for hysteresis and eddy-current losses in different magnetic materials, such as laminated cores and soft magnetic composites. We also study techniques for combining numerical models to system-level simulation tools. In addition, we collaborate with mechanical engineers with the development of coupled models to account for the interaction of magnetic fields and mechanical deformations in ferromagnetic cores. The models are applied in the analysis of electrical machines and magneto-mechanical energy-harvesting devices. We mainly develop our own calculation software or utilize open-source tools.
