Urban Planning and Design

The research group studies cities, city regions and urban-rural interaction, as well as spatial analysis, urban planning, design and management. Its research perspectives include planning systems and practices, complex processes, critical view to power in planning, public space and experiential urbanism, planning history and urban heritage.

The research group of Urban Planning and Design includes the teams of professors Juho Rajaniemi and Panu Lehtovuori and the Seinäjoki Urban Lab led by professor Ari Hynynen (known also as Alvar Aalto Chair).

To the group are associated university lecturers Minna Chudoba and Martti Lamppu , post doc researcher Jenni Partanen, adjunct professors (docents) Lieven Ameel and Markku Norvasuo, project researchers Annuska Rantanen, Jaana Vanhatalo and Damiano Cerrone and about 10 active doctoral students and research assistants.
