National research cooperation

Tampere University of Technology has a tradition of extensive research cooperation with both industry and the public sector. Businesses employ the university’s diverse expertise and research competence in the development of their own operations.

Research cooperation has generated new knowledge and innovations for the use of companies and opened a channel for many cooperation partners to more extensive national and international research cooperation.

Ways of collaborating

Cooperation with TUT can be carried out in various projects, which often also generate publications, theses and dissertations.

Research can be implemented as commissioned research, in which case a company commissions research from a TUT institute. Commissioned research may entail an extensive research project, a smaller-scale research service or a M.Sc. thesis.

In nationally funded research projects that are funded by sources such as Tekes (Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation), a company participates in TUT-coordinated research projects with a typical funding share of 20 to 25 per cent. Some 200 Tekes projects are in progress at TUT annually.

The European Union provides funding for the implementation of international research projects through funding instruments, such as the framework programmes.
