Two research groups at TUT hold the Centre of Excellence in Research status granted by the Academy of Finland.
Centre of Excellence in Signal Processing Algorithms
The research projects at the internationally renowned Signal Processing Algorithm Group (SPAG) focus on telecommunication, multimedia, the processing of sound, image and other multidimensional data and on modelling biological systems. The Department of Signal Processing at TUT has been involved in all the Academy of Finland’s centre of excellence programmes since 1995. SPAG has attained the Centre of Excellence status for the years 2006-2011.
Centre of Excellence in Generic Intelligent Machines Research
The Centre of Excellence in Generic Intelligent Machines Research (GIM) at the Department of Intelligent Hydraulics and Automation researches autonomously operating mobile machines and service robotics. GIM is formed by a team of researchers from TUT and Helsinki University of Technology. GIM’s research brings together various technologies: hydraulics, information technology, electronics and automation. The Academy of Finland has appointed GIM as a Centre of Excellence in Research for the years 2008-2013. The department has held the status in the past, too.
