Major studies in Factory Automation

Factory Automation advanced students will learn how to identify, model, program, control, validate, verificate, orchestrate, choreograph and architect manufacturing systems. In particular, the discipline of Factory Automation makes it possible to build the next generation of Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, with special focus on the important role of applied Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Students who graduate from Factory Automation can expect to work for different stakeholders of the added-value chain of industrial automation, including not only manufacturers but also automation suppliers, machine builders and system integrators.

The objective of advanced studies for factory automation is to train students in specific disciplines of the field. The advanced studies are firstly aimed at providing profound know-how on the latest industrial technologies available. Most importantly, the advanced studies are intended to train students in practices that are prerequisites for innovation and for performing professional and/or academic research and technical development within the field.

Minor studies in Micromachines

Students in Factory Automation major will study Mechatronics and Micromachines as their minor. The minor in Mechatronics and Micromachines focuses on mechatronic actuation systems and their control. The minor covers electro-mechanical and hydraulic servo systems and actuator systems based on smart materials, such as piezoelectric and shape memory materials. Depending on the interests of the student, the minor can be tuned with microsystem, sensor and design studies.
