Laboratory and measurement services

Tampere University of Technology maintains a wide range of well-equipped experimental research facilities and laboratories. Many of our facilities and the expert services provided by the departments are also available to external companies. Please contact the departments or TUT's Research Services for more information.

Department of Engineering Design

Our research equipment includes, for example, a test bench for rotating machines, tribology test equipment, vibration measurement equipment, CAD room, laboratory of virtual technology, cold room, echoless room, load frame, Particle Image Velocimeter (PIV), High Speed Imaging System, Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA), hot wire anemometer (HWA), digital video camera and Ar-Ion laser light sheet for flow visualization, wind tunnel, three component balance, water circulation loops. Department of Materials Science

We serve, for example, companies that are interested in different material characterization measurements, such as material analyses and microstructure analysis. We also offer corrosion, wear tests and damage analyses services as well as services for material selection and consultancy in different areas of materials science. Department of Automation Science and Engineering

We offer a cleanroom laboratory (class 10000 / ISO7) and an anechoic chamber. Access to the cleanroom is available to experienced / trained users, but processing services can be commissioned together with an operator. In the anechoic chamber, different types of acoustic measurements and recordings may be conducted. Measurements can range from response, directionality and sensitivity measurements to microphones and speakers. More information on the department's page.

Department of Production Engineering

The Metrology Laboratory offers reliable and independent measuring and calibration services. Our services include dimensional measuring of workpieces, measuring of machine tools, calibration of measuring standards, calibration of measuring machines, reference measuring, education, training and research. Department of Civil Engineering

Our services include measurements, monitoring and experiments conducted either in a laboratory environment or on a construction site. The Department is capable of studying and testing various building materials, structures or their parts by using both standard and new innovative methods. Laboratory tests may include measurements on a one micrometre-particle of clay or an entire hollow-core slab or pile. The services also include pile bearing capacity measurements.
