Grants and Graduation Awards
The Industrial Research Fund gives out the following grants and awards:
- Grants for Master's thesis
- Grants for Doctoral dissertation
- Graduation Awards
- Travel grants

Grants for thesis writers
Maximum amount of the grant:
- Master's thesis: EUR 10,400 (8 x EUR 1,300)
- Doctoral dissertation: EUR 15,000 (10 x EUR 1,500)
Applications of grants are reviewed on a monthly basis on the last week of each month. Applications must reach the Industrial Research Fund by the 20th of the month, so that the first instalment can be paid on the last business day of the month.
The grant covers the recipient's living costs and is paid in monthly instalments. The final instalment is paid at the end of the month when the thesis or dissertation is formally approved in the faculty. The grant may be discontinued, or the recipient may be required to pay back the grant, if the recipient does not make progress on their thesis or dissertation as planned.
MSc thesis writers are covered by TUT´s student insurance.
Dissertation writers who receive a doctoral scholarship and meet a certain requirements are covered by MYEL, the Finnish statutory pension insurance for farmers and recipients of grants and scholarships. Grants are awarded for 4-10 months. Recipients are obligated to pay statutory insurance payments that amount to 15-16 per cent of the grant. More details will be provided when students apply for a a grant.

From 1 August 2017 onwards, the Industrial Research Fund at TUT gives out graduation awards for MSc and doctoral graduates who meet the following criteria:
Master of Science in Technology and Architecture degrees:
- graduation with distinction, EUR 500
(a document thet announces that award is included in the certificate folder of the recipients)
- one Graduation Award per group of 10 doctoral graduates. Each faculty at TUT considers potential recipients for the award based on doctoral degrees completed in the previous year. The Graduation Award is worth EUR 1,500.
Gradiation Awards are granted without application and may only be paid to Finnish bank accounts in Finland.
The Industrial Research Fund may award travel grants to support participation in international conferences or exhibitions that are related to the scientific work of an employee or a doctoral student. The travel grant covers a maximum of 80 per cent of the total travel expenses. Please contact Industrial Research Fund for more information on the application process.
