Winners of the annual IIDA idea competition announced
A total of 44 entries by more than 70 participants were submitted to IIDA. For the first time in the history of the competition, more than half of the entries were submitted by international students.A team of seven students, led by TUT student Henri Puranen, developed a concept that brings a game element to a visit to a theme park. Puranen's team comprised students from Tampere University of Technology and the University of Tampere. Ilmari Tamminen who studies at the University of Tampere developed a sleep monitoring solution. The first prize was shared between these two ideas.
In addition, You Guo, Yuanyuan Zhang and Yanan Mi, all three students at Tampere University of Technology, were awarded for their fashion-related mobile application solution. Jesse Laukkanen received a prize for developing a novel approach to offering services online especially to mobile web users.
“The jury was once again impressed with the commercial potential of the entries,” says Jarno Kolehmainen, representative of the competition.
IIDA is an annual idea competition for students, researchers and employees at the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology and Tampere University of Applied Sciences.
The competition is arranged by Hermia Business Development Ld. The contest is sponsored by the three higher education institutions in Tampere, Tampere Patent Office, Tieto Finland, Rovio Entertainment Ltd, Tampere Region Economic Development Agency Tredea, Santen, the Unemployment Fund for Entrepreneurs and the Self-Employed AYT, the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK and Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK.
