TUT’s students sweep top awards in innovation contest
Students from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) took home the top three prizes in the Fastems Challenge arranged by Hermia Ltd’s innovation centre Konela and Fastems Ltd. The jury was impressed with the high quality of the submissions and had considerable difficulty choosing the winners.
Team Flexinators made up of Artturi Salo, Janne Kivinen and Jonne Suuronen won the contest with their unique, highly automatic modular machine tool.
Second place went to team A.R.S.E. that included Pekka Laiho, Matias Syrilä, Juho Toivakainen and Rami Törmälä. Tero Holopainen, Ville Hämäläinen, Lari Melander and Toimi Teelahti, or team DOF-UNLIMITED, came in third.
The innovation developed by Flexinators will be showcased at the international Manufacturing Performance Days 2013 in Tampere next June and later on at the EMO 2013 conference in Hannover, Germany.
Twenty-five student teams from seven different organizations took part in the contest. A total of 16 entries were submitted within the deadline. The winners were announced on 20 February.
