TUT’s researchers explore the future of maritime transport

Researchers from the Transport Research Centre Verne at Tampere University of Technology (TUT) have identified potential scenarios for the future of maritime transport in Finland.

The results of the study support the ongoing efforts coordinated by the Ministry of Traffic and Communications to prepare a national maritime transport strategy for Finland. The strategy is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.

The study examines internal and external factors that affect the operational environment of the maritime industry. The researchers identified four potential future scenarios: Age of growth, Age of regulation, Age of locality and Age of transformation.

The abstract is available in English online.

The researchers involved in the project were Erika Kallionpää, Markus Pöllänen, Tommi Mäkelä and Heikki Liimatainen.
