TUT’s Department of Physics wins international recognition

Optics & Photonics News, the Optical Society of America's monthly news magazine, has published a special issue highlighting the most exciting peer-reviewed optics research to have emerged in 2012.

The editors selected 30 papers for publication. One of them is authored by researchers at the Optics Laboratory, which is based in the Department of Physics at Tampere University of Technology (TUT).

The paper explores metamaterials with tailorable nonlinear optical properties. The summary of the research results is based on four scientific papers that appeared in Physical Review Letters, the New Journal of Physics, the Optics Express and Nano Letters. The research was conducted in collaboration with the University of Eastern Finland.

Established in the USA in 1916, the Optical Society of America (OSA) is the foremost scientific society in its field and dedicated to advancing and disseminating optics research. Currently more than 50 per cent of the society’s 17,000 members reside outside of the USA.
