TUT launches new, responsive website
TUT’s new website that adapts to different screen sizes has been launched. The content, structure and layout of the site have been given a complete makeover. As the new site places emphasis on people, research activities are presented from the perspective of researchers.
The visual layout of the website has been designed in accordance with TUT's graphic guidelines. Departmental web pages have been integrated into the main website to ensure consistent navigation.
Strong social media presence
Social media is an integral part of the new website. The University uses Twitter to report on high-quality research publications. Web pages, news and events can be easily shared through Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.
TUT’s Facebook page is primarily targeted to prospective students and the University’s tweets focus on research projects and research papers. TUT’s LinkedIn account brings together the scientific and business communities. Those who like TUT on Facebook gain easy access, for example, to the news items that are posted on Facebook.
Better visibility for news items and researchers
Teasers and thumbnails are displayed on the front page and second-level pages in the form of blocks. They bring added visibility to research stories, news items and TUT’s social media activities. Some of the blocks are permanently displayed, but some change to bring fresh content on the front page on a regular basis.
The Business and industry pages feature success stories resulting from university-industry collaboration. Other research highlights are presented on the Research pages.
All content that concerns student admission is now available on the Admissions site, including information that is intended for applicants who are interested in postgraduate studies.
Responsive design
The new website has been designed to seamlessly adapt to different screen sizes and resolutions, so users do not have to access specific mobile- or tablet-compatible sites. Responsive website design is still quite new in Finland. For example, Nokia launched a new responsive website shortly before Christmas 2012.
The layout of the site is automatically adapted to fit any screen. This means that if the screen you are using is narrow, the blocks on the front page are displayed in a descending order.
