TUT Forum – digital revolution opens the door to new business opportunitiesThe popular TUT Forum drew a large crowd to Sokos Hotel Torni in Tampere on 22 October. The event discussed how the digital transformation is changing the business landscape and explored the role of people in the Industrial Internet.
The event was part of the 2015 Technology Days.
The first speaker at the TUT Forum was big data expert, Professor Stuart Parkin, who won the Millennium Technology Prize last year. His work has led to a thousand-fold increase in the storage capacity of magnetic disk drives.
Keynote speaker Pirkka Palomäki, CTO of Enevo, talked about the growth potential of the Industrial Internet from the perspective of service industries. The Industrial Internet presents a huge opportunity also for traditional industrial sectors, which can transform their products into new services. Enevo provides smart logistics optimization solutions for the waste management and recycling industry. The Industrial Internet and smart wireless sensors are paving the way for increasingly cost-effective and environmentally friendly waste collection.
Presentations were also given by M.Sc Kaija Pöysti (Aldanella Oy), CEO Matti Sommarberg (Cargotec Finland Oy) and Senior Research Scientist Reijo Savola (VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland).
