TUT attracts a growing pool of applicants
The number of students applying for admission to Tampere University of Technology increased in 2013. A total of 4,118 Finnish applicants applied for admission within the framework of the Joint National Application System.Applicant numbers were up by 300 compared to 2012 and by 500 compared to 2011. TUT’s popularity increased also when comparing the number of applications: the University received 7,395 applications in 2013.
In addition to Finland’s Joint National Application System that is intended for students with no previous tertiary-level education, the University admits students, who already hold a bachelor’s degree, to master’s degree programmes conducted in Finnish or English. Students who graduate from upper secondary schools may also gain admission to the University, if they succeed in national mathematics, chemistry, physics or IT competitions or the Academy of Finland’s Viksu science competition. A total of 1,742 applicants submitted an application within the framework of the separate application rounds.
Judging by the number of applications and places available in the programmes conducted in Finnish, the Degree Programme in Science and Engineering and the Degree Programme in Environmental and Energy Technology were the hardest to get into.
Increasing number of international applicants
The application period to the international master's degree programmes ended in late February. Altogether 1025 applicants from 69 different countries applied to the programmes. The total number of applications was 1198. The MSc programmes in information technology and electrical engineering remained the most popular programmes. The admission results concerning foreign applicants will be published in late April.
