TUT attracts a growing number of applications
The number of students applying for admission to Tampere University of Technology increased in 2012. A total of 3,843 students applied for admission to the University within the framework of the Joint National Application System.Compared to 2011 (3,582 applicants), the number of applicants was up by 7 percent.
TUT’s popularity increased also when comparing the number of applications: the University received 7,295 applications in 2012 and 6,697 applications in 2011.
“We're very pleased to see the increase in interest. The University has taken steps to promote its online presence and visibility at student fairs. This may have contributed to the growth in application numbers”, says Head of Student Services Kirsi Lindfors.
Judging by the number of applications and places available, the degree programmes in biotechnology, architecture, science and engineering, and industrial management were the hardest to get into.
The number of female applicants also increased slightly. Almost a third (32%) of all the applicants were women.
“This shows we’re headed in the right direction, as our goal is to increase the number of female students”, says Lindfors.
In 2011, 28 percent of all the newly admitted students were women.
In addition to Finland’s Joint National Application System that is intended for students with no previous tertiary-level education, the University admits students, who already hold a bachelor’s degree, to master’s degree programmes conducted either in Finnish or English. A total of 1,373 students with a BSc degree applied for admission to the master’s programmes.
