Tuomas Vanhanen wins 2014 Outstanding Master’s Thesis AwardThe master’s thesis written by Tuomas Vanhanen at TUT has been selected as the best thesis written in the field of energy economics in 2014.
Vanhanen received the award from WEC Finland and the Society for Finnish Energy Economists (Suomen Energiaekonomistit ry) for his master's thesis titled “The evolving requirements for smart secondary substations in three European regulatory market environments”. The research was sponsored by ABB.
Vanhanen completed his thesis at the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering in the Faculty of Natural Sciences under the supervision of Professors Pertti Järventausta and Risto Raiko.
The jury was impressed with Vanhanen’s in-depth analysis and versatile research approach. In addition, the jury considered it important that the thesis addresses the changing requirements of the broader society and relevant regulations.
The award was given out at the Energy Day hosted by WEC Finland in Helsinki on 22 October 2015. Valtteri Vainio of Aalto University received an award for the best thesis written in the field of energy engineering. The jury was made up of Professor Jorma Routti (Chairman), Juha Honkatukia (VATT Institute for Economic Research), Pekka Järvinen (Society for Finnish Energy Economists), Stefan Wilhelms (Nasdaq OMX) and Lauri Muranen (WEC Finland; secretary).
