Transitional Board appointed for the new Tampere UniversityOn 18 December 2017, the Board of the TTY Foundation decided to appoint the current Board of Tampere University Foundation as the transitional Board of the new Tampere University. The Board of the University of Tampere made a similar decision on Tuesday, 30 January.
On 12 December 2017, the Finnish Parliament confirmed a set of Tampere3-related laws, including an implementation act stipulating that the Boards of Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Tampere (UTA) are to elect a transitional Board for the new university so that it can start operating by 1 January 2018.
On 18 December 2017, the Board of the TTY Foundation decided to appoint the current Board of Tampere University Foundation (TUF) as the transitional Board of the new Tampere University.
On Tuesday, 30 January 2018, UTA’s Board also decided that TUF’s current Board continues as the transitional Board. The decision includes a statement that an advisory board made up of members of the two universities' Boards must be established to support the work of the transitional Board. The decision made by UTA’s Board will come into force after it has been approved by TUF’s Board.
The next meeting of TUF’s Board has been scheduled for Friday, 2 February.

As we are under a tight schedule, it is important that we can move forward with the decision-making processes concerning the election of the new university's Academic Board, regulations and structure as well as the election regulations,” says Mika Hannula, President of Tampere University of Technology.
According to the implementation act, the transitional Board will appoint the university’s first president and decide on the number of members in its first multimember administrative body, namely the Academic Board, in accordance with the regulations of the Universities Act. The Academic Board is to begin its operations on 1 April 2018 at the latest. The Academic Board elects the first Board of the new university.
