Retired employees enjoyed a reunion on 12 January

TUT’s retired female employees met at a reunion in the restaurant Tillikka to meet former colleagues and reminisce about their experiences at the University.

Most of the participants had worked at TUT since the 1970s.

“The idea was born when Marjatta Soini and I met and got talking how great it would be to get together and meet former colleagues,” says Mervi Lehtonen, former secretary at the Faculty of Automation, Mechanical and Materials Engineering.

Mervi Lehtonen took responsibility for arranging the event and a total of 19 retired employees signed up for the reunion that took place at the atmospheric restaurant Tillikka in the city centre.

Even though the ladies are enjoying their retirement, many admitted they still follow all TUT-related news with great interest. Sinikka Suonpää told that she always reads news concerning TUT and especially the School of Architecture. Kaija Jääskeläinen still goes to a morning church service on campus and has lunch with her former colleagues every once in a while.

The reunion was now arranged for the first time. As the event proved a success, it was decided to arrange the reunion each January in the same restaurant. The ladies sent warm regards to all the staff and students at TUT.

The participants included (in alphabetical order) Eila Hirvonen, Milja Järvinen, Kaija Jääskeläinen, Kirsti Karjalainen, Mervi Karlsson, Rita Kaskela, Terhi Kautonen, Marjatta Klemola (not included in the photo), Mervi Lehtonen, Sirkka Moilanen, Lea Pelto, Maija Rantanen, Aila Ristaniemi, Marjatta Soini, Sinikka Suonpää, Anja Viljanen and Sirkka Vuorenmaa.
