Prof. Ilpo Vattulainen receives the Magnus Ehrnrooth Prize in Physics
The Finnish Society of Sciences and Letters has granted the 2013 Magnus Ehrnrooth Prize in Physics to Professor Ilpo Vattulainen from Tampere University of Technology.
Vattulainen holds a professorship in biological physics at the Department of Physics. His internationally recognized expertise lies in the biophysical mechanisms that underlie the functions of lipid membranes in cells. His research group has discovered, among others, how individual lipid molecules can affect the behaviour of membrane receptors and cell-to-cell communication.
In spring 2012, Vattulainen’s research group received a five-year ERC Advanced Grant from the European Research Council.
The Magnus Ehrnrooth Prize is awarded in turns to outstanding scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics and chemistry. The prize is worth 17,500 euros.
