OSA Fellow designation awarded to Prof. Martti Kauranen
Professor of Physics Martti Kauranen has been elected as a fellow of the Optical Society of America (OSA).
Kauranen will receive the OSA Fellow certificate at an international conference in May 2013. He is one of the programme chairs.
Established in the United States in 1916, OSA is the foremost scientific society in its field and dedicated to advancing and disseminating optics research. Currently more than 50 per cent of the society’s 17,000 members reside outside of the United States. The OSA Fellow designation is awarded to OSA Members who have made significant contributions to the advancement of optics. The number of Fellows is limited by the Society's bylaws to be no more than 10% of the total OSA Membership. Fellow status is annually awarded to an average of 60-70 members.
Professor Kauranen was awarded the Fellow status in recognition of his ground-breaking research results concerning the nonlinear phenomena of surfaces, thin films and nanostructures and related multipole phenomena.
