Marja Asp-Lehtinen wins Teacher of the Year AwardLecturer in Chemistry Marja Asp-Lehtinen of the Department of Chemistry and Bioengineering at Tampere University of Technology (TUT) has received the 2015 Teacher of the Year Award from the Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion. The award is worth EUR 15,000.
According to the Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion, Marja Asp-Lehtinen was awarded in recognition of her outstanding commitment to her students and their learning. By granting the award to Marja Asp-Lehtinen, the Foundation is also seeking to highlight the importance of core courses that lay the foundation for further study. Asp-Lehtinen was nominated for the award by the guild of biotechnology students Bioner.
The winner of the award was announced on Monday, 1 June.
The last time the award was granted to TUT’s faculty member was 2014, when Jyrki Vuorinen received the award. Aki Korpela won the award in 2013 and Matti Rintala in 2006.
The Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion has given out approximately 90 grants and three awards amounting to EUR 700,000 in 2015. In addition, the Foundation awards EUR 100,000 in research grants each year through the Postdoc Pool.
