Kindergarten opens in the middle of the campusA kindergarten opens on the campus of Tampere University of Technology on 2 January 2018. The kindergarten will be located in the Konetalo building in facilities owned by University Properties of Finland Ltd.
The kindergarten will be spread over 800 square metres in the lower floors of the Konetalo building and the Konetalo courtyard. The kindergarten will offer five groups for children.
Te rental agreement has been signed by University Properties of Finland Ltd and Touhula Varhaiskasvatus Oy. The facilities are currently being renovated to accommodate the kindergarten.
“The kindergarten demonstrates how versatile and vibrant the TUT campus is. We’re delighted to welcome the little ‘students’ to the campus and look forward to launching similar activities in other cities and campuses. The kindergarten offers employees and students an excellent opportunity to bring their children to a kindergarten right in their workplace. The kindergarten has an international focus, which is ideal for the multicultural campus community,” says Samuel Koivisto from University Properties of Finland Ltd.
Touhula is the largest private company that runs kindergartens in Finland. It operates 148 kindergartens in the country. The kindergarten on the TUT campus is called ‘Touhula Hervannan kampus’ and is the company’s third kindergarten in Tampere.
“Our kindergarten on the TUT campus embraces the Hoksaus Science method, which is based on academic research conducted at the University of Helsinki. Hoksaus Science gets children excited about sciences through play-based learning, storytelling and dramatic arts. Children develop their language and communication skills by playing and singing. The digital ‘Moomin Language School’ environment helps children learn English in a playful and fun way," says Touhula’s CEO Virpi Holmqvist.
