International recognition for the Kampusareena building

The Kampusareena concept developed by University Properties of Finland Ltd and Tampere University of Technology (TUT) has been identified as a Good Practise in the Interreg European InnoBridge project.

The Kampusareena building houses a broad range of services and flexible, multipurpose spaces that promote and facilitate collaboration. It is also an inspirational learning environment.

The building stands in the middle of the TUT campus as a meeting place for companies, researchers and alumni.

“Continuous interaction with industry, business and the broader society is one of the cornerstones of our University. Kampusareena serves as a physical manifestation of this commitment: it brings together our students, employees and collaboration partners and fuels new ideas that can evolve into large-scale research projects, innovations or new business,” says President Mika Hannula of Tampere University of Technology.

“This recognition demonstrates that our concept has won international attention. It is a credit not only to the Kampusareena building but also to the entire higher education community in Tampere," Hannula adds.

Interreg is seeking to bridge the innovation gap and promote the commercialization of R&D results by developing and identifying regional and local good practises around Europe.

Earlier this autumn, the Kampusareena concept was one of the keynote presentations at a seminar of the Urbact project carried out by Interreg Europe. The purpose of the project is to identify and share good practices in sustainable urban development.

”These are important achievements as we strive towards our vision to be the premier developer of campus environments in Europe,” says Mervi Huhtelin, senior specialist at University Properties of Finland Ltd.
