Industry relations was TUT’s strong suit in Times Higher Education university rankingTimes Higher Education (THE) has published its 2016 World University Ranking. TUT ranks among the top 600 universities in the world.
Times Higher Education issues an annual university ranking that compares universities as regards their teaching, research, citations, industry collaboration and international outlook. Out of the thousands of universities around the world, the top 980 make the list. This year, TUT ranked in the group 501–600.
Once again, TUT’s strong suit in the comparison was close industry collaboration. Measured with this indicator, TUT ranked in the best 20 per cent.
For the first time in the 13-year history of the Times Higher Education ranking, the British University of Oxford was ranked the best. Previously, the best ranked university has always come from the United States. In addition to the University of Oxford, this year’s top three included California Institute of Technology and Stanford University. From Finland, altogether nine universities made it on the list. The best position was achieved by the University of Helsinki, ranking 91st.
Tuesday evening, the QS Ranking was also published, listing the world’s top young universities under 50 years old. TUT, which gained independence in 1972, was the best ranked Finnish university on the list at number 30.
