IIDA Idea Competition 2012 launched
IIDA is an annual idea competition for students, researchers and employees at the University of Tampere, Tampere University of Technology and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The competition has spawned several successful companies, such as Web of Trust and Ovelin Ltd.The purpose of the competition is to encourage students and researchers to develop new innovations and pursue entrepreneurship.
The competition has two categories:
1. Product ideas and innovations
2. Service business ideas and new business concepts
The competition is now arranged for the 18th time. Web of Trust, the winner of the 2006 competition, uses data collected from millions of users to guard individuals and enterprises from untrustworthy links without restricting access to the web. Web of Trust has already topped 30 million downloads. Ovelin Ltd won first place in 2010 and has already achieved international recognition and the title ”European best learning game 2011”. Other winners of IIDA with significant growth potential include, for example, Intoloop Ltd and IGL Technologies Ltd.
You can enter the competition by submitting your idea online at http://hermiayrityskehitys.fi/iida/index.php?sivu=home&hl=en > Competition Form. The deadline is 12 April. The total amount of prize money is close to EUR 7,000.
Depending on the quality of the submissions, the jury will award 5-8 prizes. The awards will be given out in May 2012.
In addition to higher education institutions in Tampere, the competition is supported by Tredea, the Tampere Region Economic Development Agency. The main sponsors are Rovio Entertainment Ltd, Tampereen Patenttitoimisto Oy and Tieto Finland Ltd. The competition is also supported by Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland TEK and Santen Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. Hermia Business Development Ltd is in charge of the practical arrangements.
