Electrical Engineer of the Year Award to Professor Leena Korpinen
Professor Leena Korpinen has received the 2012 Electrical Engineer of the Year Award from the Association of Electrical Engineers in Finland in recognition of her scientific achievements and for promoting collaboration in the field of electrical engineering.
Leena Korpinen’s research interests focus on health issues in the energy field and the health effects of new technology, including health problems connected with traffic and logistics as well as electromagnetic fields. Her research group is currently exploring the effects of electric and magnetic fields on pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
”It’s a great honour to receive the award. This is also a recognition of the hard work and dedication of the talented individuals in my research group”, says Korpinen.
Korpinen graduated with a master’s degree from Tampere University of Technology in 1986. She completed a Licentiate of Medicine degree at the University of Tampere in 1989 and a Licentiate of Science in Technology degree in 1990. In 1993, Korpinen obtained a doctorate in medicine from the University of Tampere and three years later a doctorate in science from Lappeenranta University of Technology. Korpinen is a licensed physician and docent in medical technology at the University of Tampere.
The award includes a monetary prize of EUR 5,000. The award was now given out for the third time.
