EASI-CLOUDS project wins ITEA Award of ExcellenceResearchers from the Department of Pervasive Computing at TUT participated in the EASI-CLOUDS project, which has won an ITEA Excellence Award at an international conference held in Berlin. The award was granted by ITEA, the EUREKA Cluster on Software-intensive Systems & Services.
EASI-CLOUDS won the ITEA Excellence Award in the ’Business Impact’ category. The award was given out at the ITEA-Artemis Co-summit that took place in Berlin on 10-11 March.
The mission of the EASI-CLOUDS project (Extendable Architecture and Service Infrastructure for Cloud-Aware Software) was to develop a comprehensive cloud computing infrastructure that offers superior reliability, elasticity, security and ease-of-use characteristics. One of the goals was to enable service providers to buy and sell capacity on demand, much like power companies are doing today.
EASI-CLOUDS brought together researchers from Finland, France, Germany, Denmark, Egypt and Korea. The Finnish partners included TUT, University of Helsinki, F-Secure, Leonidas Oyj, Innofactor, and GearShift. The project was coordinated by Mario Lopez-Ramos, Research & Development Team Leader at Thales Communications & Security, France.
The project members at TUT were Farshad Ahmadighohandizi, Otto Hylli, Samuel Lahtinen, Janne Lautamäki, Professor Tommi Mikkonen, Anna Ruokonen, Tiia Suvanto and Professor Kari Systä. Their role in the project was the development of cloud-based software and a service composition system for end-users. Their contributions to EASI-CLOUDS resulted, among others, in several research papers, one master’s thesis and two doctoral dissertations.
