Distinguished TUT employees received honorary decorations granted by President NiinistöThe President of the Republic of Finland granted honorary decorations to distinguished members of the TUT community on the Finnish Independence Day, 6 December 2016. TUT’s President Mika Hannula handed over the decorations with related certificates of honour on Monday.
At the ceremony, President Mika Hannula congratulated the decoration recipients and thanked them for their efforts in benefit of the Tampere University of Technology. Celebratory cake and coffee were also served in honour of the decorated TUT staff members.
One of the recipients was professor of physics Jorma Keskinen. During his research, Keskinen has developed methods of measuring particulate matter. These methods have significant effects on how vehicular pollution and climate change are measured worldwide. In addition to his teaching and research work, Keskinen has been a central figure in helping TUT’s Department of Physics grow in both staff and number of published articles. He has also been instrumental in creating new strategies for the department.
“When I was first told about the decorations, I wasn’t sure if I was the right person. All of us recipients have always worked with the good of TUT on our minds,” Jorma Keskinen says.
