Community managers meet in Tampere on 23 Jan

Tampere University of Technology (TUT) will host a Community Manager Appreciation Day on Monday, 23 January 2012.

The event will take place in the Festia building from 10:00 to 14:00.

In 2010, well-known web strategist Jeremiah Owyang stated in his blog that community managers do not always get the credit they deserve. His initiative served as an impetus to launch annual Community Manager Appreciation Days (CMAD) that celebrate the efforts of community managers around the world to improve customer experiences.

Finland's first CMAD wil be hosted by the SOITA project implemented at TUT. The project explores the use of social media in B2B companies. The key research theme is customer communities that are supported by social media.

“The rationale behind the event is to enable Finnish community managers to share their experiences, learn from each other and show their appreciation to one another through social media”, says Jari Jussila who manages the SOITA project.

Jussila says that the title of community manager has lately started to become more common in Finnish companies. The role has existed far longer in various hobby circles. According to LinkedIn, there are approximately forty community managers in Finland.

The event is expected to attract roughly twenty community managers to TUT. Those who cannot come to the event can follow the programme online and post comments via Twitter.
