Architecture students from TUT win international contest
Students from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) have won the first, second and third place in an international contest, whereby the participants were assigned to develop new and innovative ways to make the historic seaside town of Bonifacio, Corsica, more accessible to all.
A total of 45 students from eight European countries took part in the annual LOTUS workshop that promotes the idea of inclusion in the study of architecture. The participants were encouraged to come up with innovative and bold designs and see accessibility not only from a functional point of view but also from a cultural and social perspective.
An accessible environment is one that is usable by everyone, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or disability.
The submissions were developed by international groups of four. The design (see photo) submitted by Antti Keskinen from TUT and his group won the first prize.
Second place went to Noora Pihlajarinne and her group and third place to Iida Hedberg and her group.
The contest was arranged in connection with the ERASMUS workshop called Let’s Open Tourism for US (LOTUS). The workshop will be implemented next time in spring 2013 at Le Reunion, an island in the Indian Ocean.
