Academy of Finland awards 8 million euros for SHOK research

Professors Kaisa Väänänen-Vainio-Mattila and Matti Vilkko from Tampere University of Technology (TUT) have received funding under the Academy’s call for proposals.

The abbreviation “SHOK” stands for Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation. They are public-private partnerships that have been established in Finland to speed up innovation processes. 

The Academy of Finland has granted funding for six research consortia and eight research projects. The call for proposals attracted 106 applications.

Two professors based at Tampere University of Technology (TUT) received funding under the Academy’s call. Funding was awarded to Professor Kaisa Väänänen-Vainio-Mattila’s project focusing on mobile social networking and Professor Matti Vilkko’s project that aims to model human behaviour and evaluate performance in human-computer interaction. Their projects fall within the thematic areas explored by TIVIT Ltd, the Strategic Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation in the field of ICT.
